How fees work

The answers to what nearly everyone asks before they set the days aside.

  • Insurance we work with

Dwell does not bill insurance. You pay for an intensive yourself, and for each follow-up session. We are out of network with every plan and we do not take Medicare or Medicaid. If you would rather use a plan, we will gladly give you the names of colleagues who bill one.

    • Out of network with every plan

    • No Medicare or Medicaid

  • If you pay yourself

The fee for an intensive depends on the format, two days or a weekend, and on the hours you and Virginia set aside. A follow-up session by video is 80 minutes and is charged by the session. Virginia is licensed in Oklahoma, so video sessions are for couples who are in Oklahoma. We give you the fee in writing before you book, and nothing is charged until you agree to it. We take cards, including HSA and FSA cards. A limited number of reduced-fee places are held for couples who ask. Because the days are held for you alone, changes need two weeks' notice, and we put the cancellation terms in writing with your fee.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

After an intensive, and after each follow-up session, we give you an itemized receipt (a superbill) with the dates and the kind of session, to send to your plan, which may reimburse part of the cost. It carries a diagnosis code your insurer can see. Many plans do not pay for couples therapy, and reimbursement is not guaranteed, so ask your plan before you book.

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written Good Faith Estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one before you book. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

  • Checking your benefits

We do not check benefits, because we do not bill your plan. If you want to know whether your plan reimburses out-of-network counseling for couples, call it before you book and ask about marriage and family therapy.

  • What the first visit includes

Before an intensive you have a planning call with Virginia, about half an hour by video. You talk through dates, travel and what each of you hopes the time will be for, and she tells you honestly whether an intensive looks like a fit. The fee comes to you in writing after that call, and nothing is booked until you say so.

Before you book

You see the fee in writing first

After the planning call, Harper sends one page: the format, the hours, the fee and the cancellation terms. You decide at your own pace, and nothing is charged until you agree.

If the fee is more than you can manage, say so. A limited number of reduced-fee places are held for couples who ask, and asking does not change how Virginia sees you.
