Who it helps

Two days, in a room with the lamps on

A two-day intensive is for couples who can arrange two days off together and want a long, unhurried stretch of time with a therapist, rather than a weekly hour.

You arrive in the morning. Virginia asks each of you what you want from these days, and the first conversation can take as long as it needs. The afternoon goes to the pattern you have named. The evening is yours. The second day picks up from there and ends with a plan for ordinary weeks.

What to expect

  • The method

Virginia draws on the Gottman Method and on emotionally focused therapy. In practice, that means slowing a conversation down, naming what is under it, and practicing a different way of saying it, with her in the room.

  • What this is not

It is not a retreat, a workshop or a lecture, and it is not a substitute for therapy on your own if either of you needs that. It is not the right place to start if one of you is afraid of the other.

  • Length and pace

Two consecutive days, in blocks with breaks. Virginia sets the pace with you, and either of you can ask to stop a conversation at any point. She does not promise a result.

How it is paid

You pay for the intensive yourself, and we give you the fee in writing before you book. A receipt you can send to your plan comes after, and a Good Faith Estimate comes first.

Three questions about this

Do we both have to come?

Yes. An intensive is for the two of you in the room. If one of you cannot come, weekly sessions or time with a therapist on your own may be a better first step.

Can we split the two days over two weekends?

Often, yes. Say so on the planning call and Harper will look at dates with you.

What should we bring?

Comfortable clothes, something to drink and snacks you like. We supply the room, the lamps and the coffee.
